Since its military origins in the 14th century, pants have always symbolized comfort and practicality. In the 15th century, this type of garment began to gain more popularity, being manufactured for work purposes mainly, with tighter cuts and at the ankle. With the beginning of the 20th century, the modern pants that we know today arrived with innovative designs, different fabrics and important details such as zippers. Below we share some styles of pants, which you can find within our 100% organic linen line, and the history behind them.

Capri Pants: These types of pants are characterized by being shorter than regular pants, and are usually worn in the summer as they offer a casual and relaxed look. They were named by the German fashion designer Sonja de Lennart, as a homage to her favorite Italian vacation destination: the renowned Isle of Capri. These were introduced in the 1940's and became an "it" piece thanks to actress and model Audrey Hepburn over 80 years ago. Some of our bestseller pants in this style are the Aranza Pants or the Samira Pants, which have unique details such as pearl buttons and linen tassels.

Wide Leg Cut Pants: This style of pants dates back to the 1910's and 1920's, decades when it was commonly worn for sports such as horseback riding. However, it was renowned designer Coco Chanel who brought this trend into the realm of glamour, by wearing her own wide-legged pants to the beach. Wide-legged pants are a benchmark of style and versatility, as they can be used for almost any occasion, flattering the female silhouette by adding height. In summer, they can be found in light fabrics such as silk or linen, and in winter they are ideal in materials such as wool. From our collection, we recommend the Fiji Pants and the Balkan Pants, which easily adapt to any outfit and are perfect for warmer weather.

The jumpsuit: It was created as a functional piece for skydivers, yet it was French-American dressmaker Pauline Trigère who repurposed it in the fashion world during the 1960's. Due to the flexibility and comfort it brings to its wearer, the jumpsuit became especially popular among entertainment figures, being adopted as a unisex item by celebrities from Farah Fawcett and Cher to Elvis Presley and Tom Cruise. This garment in light fabrics such as linen is essential for your spring wardrobe, which is why we recommend our Jumpsuit Chatham.

Flared pants: They made their debut in the 1960's, being a style that is fitted to the body from the waist to the knees, and from the knee, it flares to form a bell to the ankles. It became closely associated with the "hippie" and rebellious fashion of the 1970's, as it was a significant contrast to straight-leg pants, which were the norm at the time. This is our most popular style of women's pants, so you can find it in different "fits," with side slits and even fraying at specific points, like the Libertad Pants and the Aria Pants.
